| A
number of suggestions have been made for the establishment of a memorial
that might express our appreciation for the wonderful education, in and
out of the classroom, that we received at Sde Boker. Many ideas have been suggested. Some of our favorites are: |
|
| Ecological Guest House - International Based on knowledge acquired through research at the Desert Research Institute and Ben Gurion University in the areas of Desert Architecture, Desert Ecology, Solar Energy, Water and Raw Sewage Treatment - we will help to establish an Ecological Guest House Facility which will be the first of its kind in the Negev and in the State of Israel. The facility will host workshops in the area of Environmental Architecture which is closely related to the desert and the Negev. The facility will be a part of the overall framework of guest accommodation at Midreshet Sde Boker. The Center for Young Leadership in the Negev The establishment of a building for all of the leadership activity at Midreshet Sde Boker: Pre-Army Preparatory Program; Leadership and Survival in the Field Program; Program for Leadership in the Diaspora and Youth Groups. The building will contain lecture rooms, a Pedagogical Library, development area, computer rooms, and student dormitories. Student Science and Research Center The establishment of a Science Center for the elementary school pupils, the High School for Environmental Studies, the Pre-Army Preparatory Program, the Field School and the Desert Reptile Center. The Science Center would also serve the Bedouin population in the area of Sde Boker and the communities in the area. Grants for students in the educational institutions To this day, more than 500 students learn at Midreshet Sde Boker in different frameworks. These students learn in the High School for Environmental Studies, in the Negev Preparatory Program and at the Field School. Some of these students need aid in financing their studies. Midreshet Sde Boker presently provides $40,000 for this purpose. Program for Leadership in the Diaspora Midreshet Sde Boker, together with the Ben Gurion Heritage Center, has initiated the creation of a unique educational program for former residents of the Soviet Union who now reside in Germany and the United States. This program combines studies about the State of Israel from the perspectives of History, Jewish studies, the Environment, Society and Culture. The studies continue for 10 months and provide academic credits, as well as community involvement, familiarity with the landscape, heritage and residents of the State of Israel. Research Fund in Environmental Education - Society Environmental Education is undergoing many changes and faces new dilemmas especially related to social aspects. Midreshet Sde Boker has initiated the creation of a fund for teachers and researchers who will research educational programs and directions in Environmental Education. The fund is intended for researchers towards their M.A. and PhD. |
